MANAGER OF DATA SYSTEMS Direct & Interactive Marketing Agency Washington, D.C. This company offers up to 4 paid days/year for volunteer work benefiting social and environmental causes. The Manager of Data Systems oversees the day-to-day operations of marketing data and database vendors and other relevant vendor-partners, ensuring accurate execution of marketing campaigns.
Responsibilities
Data Management
- Acts as primary day-to-day contact for marketing data/database vendors; Coordinates efforts of all data-capture vendors involved in the account on a continuous or project-specific basis;
- Documents all processes required to ensure optimal data integrity and provides oversight to ensure compliance by all relevant parties;
- Interfaces with database partner to ensure data transfer protocol meets marketing requirements and are executed in compliance with specifications;
- Prepares cost estimates and project budgets for client and non-client-related projects as assigned;
- Evaluates and develops partnerships with information resources;
- Develops, builds and executes repeatable data aggregation and processing functions/tools that fuel reports developed in collaboration with marketing analysts.
Project Management
- Assists in the development and implementation of data warehousing and management infrastructure on behalf of clients by participating in vendor selection process and/or oversight of vendors in planning and execution phases of projects;
- Assists the Marketing Analysts in planning data logistics to ensure efficient project execution;
- Responsible for quality control of database marketing campaign process and execution;
- Performs detailed quality assurance reviews of all client data prior to processing and mailing;
- Assists in the production of continuous and/or ad hoc database reports used for data QC and analysis;
- Identifies project-specific requirements for data processing and address hygiene functions, and makes arrangements to meet those needs.
Staff Development/Team Building
- Collaborates between internal and external teams for database-related projects;
- Fosters and promotes a team working environment;
- Works on own performance evaluation by reviewing performance, identifying gaps and participating in training and development as needed;
- Assists the Marketing Intelligence team by identifying performance improvement areas and recommending training and development opportunities (e.g., E-Learning courses) in an effort to develop staff expertise/skill sets;
- Attends and/or participates in department overview meetings, mentor program and in-house workshops when necessary.
Agency Growth
- Actively participates in agency-wide training programs;
- Adheres to agency-defined workflow procedures as directed by Marketing Services and/or executive leaders;
- Exemplifies fiscal responsibility by adhering to agency and client expense management and staffing policies and procedures;
- Contributes to new business projects as requested;
- Upholds agency-wide policies, procedures and processes across the Marketing Intelligence department.
Requirements (MUST HAVES)
- Bachelor’s degree plus three years’ or more experience in data systems management within a direct marketing environment;
- Familiarity with data processing techniques used in direct marketing;
- Knowledge of relational database design principles and proficiency with database management applications;
- Proficiency with data manipulation tools (SQL, SAS, etc.);
- Familiarity with marketing reporting and analysis requirements;
- Proficiency with MS Office, especially Access and Excel;
- Experience implementing and using marketing database campaign management tools (such as, Unica, Alterian, Epiphany, etc.);
- Ability to work above and beyond the call of duty and provide guidance across departments in a team and matrix environment;
- Ability to meet high standards for quality and accuracy under tight deadlines;
- Ability to prioritize, organize and multi-task effectively;
- Superior attention to detail;
- Ability to exhibit client service approach with results-driven performance;
- Solid reasoning and problem-solving skills.
